The first visit to Kamla Nagar was basic, I just took a round of the place but now I saw it with a different perspective. Now I saw it with not just a shopper's point of view but that of an OBSERVER. I went into the history of this area and found out that Kamla Nagar is named after Kamala Nehru, a freedom fighter and wife of Jawaharlal Nehru.
Kamla Nagar is surrounded by University of Delhi's North campus and Kamla Nehru Ridge Forest on the east, Roop Nagar on the north, Shakti Nagar on the west and Malka Ganj on the south. It has become one of the top shopping areas for Delhi. Kamla Nagar is now converting into a ladies' high street shopping center, where one can find famous western and ethnic clothing, along with cheaper street-bargaining type shopping.
I also got to know about the history of spark mall in there that it was a garden ealier and now it has been 3 years since it has been constructed. It provided the people one major advantange over there and it was the traffic there which has reduced manifolds now as the mall has a parking area where the people can park their cars and shop in the market or the mall.
The next visit made me look everything with a different perspective. We were told the degraded the area the better design intervention can be provided by us so I started seeing the street shops over where there were many of them ranging from accessories to clothes to food like chuski, golgappas, pineapple, sugarcane juice, coconut water and many more.
And, this is the point from where my journey toward my deeper research for CHUSKI started.
