'Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.'

Varities

Paan has various forms and flavours. The most commonly found include:

Tobacco (tambaku paan): Betel leaf filled with powdered tobacco with spices.

Areca nut (paan supari, paan masala or sada paan): Betel leaf filled with a mixture of coarsely ground or chopped areca nuts and other spices.

"Sweet" (meetha paan): Betel leaf with neither tobacco nor areca nuts, the filling is primarily coconut, fruit preserves, rose petal preserves (gulkand) and various spices. It is also often served with a maraschino cherry.

Trento (olarno paan): Has a taste like betel with a minty aftertaste. Eaten along with fresh potatoes, it is served in most Indian restaurants.

Effects on Health

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) regards the chewing of betel-quid and areca nut to be a known human carcinogen. The main carcinogenic factor is believed to be areca nut. A recent study found that areca-nut paan with and without tobacco increased oral cancer risk by 9.9 and 8.4 times, respectively.

After, doing lot of  research we were totally exhausted and went to Woodbox cafe to chill
later went back home and here comes the end of our day.

"Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success."

Here, starts our new module "DESIGN SOLUTION", it was a group module, in which we have to select one area and do research on it ,find the problem and then giving the solution for it.
Groups of 5 students  were made and AFTER LOTS OF BRAINSTORMING AND DISCUSSION,
we selected " NORTH CAMPUS " as our area of research.

Guidelines given to us was  ,we have to go there ,choose any five units and just observe it carefully.
THERE COMES OUR FIRST FIELD VISIT:
North Campus,a brand name for students ,is famous for its hang out places or should I called 'Addas' [as called by students].The excitement of being in campus takes over the moment once I entered  in that area. The surrounding area is always buzzing and has momo stands, banta vendors .

As I move forward, there were many famous colleges like SRCC, HANSRAJ, KHALSA . Right adjacent to hansraj college, there was a place called  Kamla Nagar,a hotspots for students.Brimming with joint serving Chinese, Tibetan, North Indian- they also have major chain brands like CCD, Barista,  Costa Coffee. But the real attraction is at Daawat-e-N=Mezbaan for mughlai. I further found an amazing thing , that there being a mall constructed on  the CHAURAHA of the Bunglow road, there is less traffic in that area ,as mall provide parking area.

Further, I move , I saw the PINEAPPLE VENDOR, pineapple is in season right now and people are buying it because of its sweet nature and freshness.
I saw the vendor, he has kept in mind the HYGIENE aspect, covered the pineapple with plastic sheet and uses gloves.

Further, I saw the CHUSKI VENDOR,  there were lot of peoples who were buying it .he sells banta as well as water bottles also, which increases his sell
.
He has arranged all the stuff in one cart only, which was very attractively placed.Lots of flavor can easily recognized, because of its arrangement.

Just there only, I saw the SUGARCANE VENDOR JUICE CART, which was unorganized  and unhygienic ,very few peoples were coming and drinking it.

When I was going back for home I saw the PAN SHOP, there was not much space to stand ,as it was small and  lots of people were also buying it .Pan was available in many varieties, which is giving the refreshment sort of feeling.
After, having pan I was tired and went back home .
The experience there was amazing "EAT,DRINK,PLAY AND EXPERIENCE VARIOUS HUBS ACROSS THIS CRAZY AREA"

Kamla Nagar

LIFE IS AN EXPLORATION OF  THINGS.
THE MORE EXPLORATIONS WE MAKE ,
THE MORE KNOWLEDGE THEY GAIN.

The first visit to Kamla Nagar was basic, I just took a round of the place but now I saw it with a different perspective. Now I saw it with not just a shopper's point of view but that of an OBSERVER. I went into the history of this area and found out that Kamla Nagar is named after Kamala Nehru, a freedom fighter and wife of Jawaharlal Nehru.
Kamla Nagar is surrounded by University of Delhi's North campus and Kamla Nehru Ridge Forest on the east, Roop Nagar on the north, Shakti Nagar on the west and Malka Ganj on the south. It has become one of the top shopping areas for Delhi. Kamla Nagar is now converting into a ladies' high street shopping center, where one can find famous western and ethnic clothing, along with cheaper street-bargaining type shopping.
I also got to know about the history of spark mall in there that it was a garden ealier and now it has been 3 years since it has been constructed. It provided the people one major advantange over there and it was the traffic there which has reduced manifolds now as the mall has a parking area where the people can park their cars and shop in the market or the mall.
The next visit made me look everything with a different perspective. We were told the degraded the area the better design intervention can be provided by us so I started seeing the street shops over where there were many of them ranging from accessories to clothes to food like chuski, golgappas, pineapple, sugarcane juice, coconut water and many more.
And, this is the point from where my journey toward my deeper research for CHUSKI started.

Tuesday, 3 March 2015

Finally,  I reached to NORTH CAMPUS and researched to explore the unit. Kamla nagar is a crowed market. The overall mood is energetic as a lot of students stay and come there and their is a good marketing presences in that area.I was fascinated by the street accessories shops as every next month there is new and improvised accessories.

Researching and observing was a great experience. I came to know the way they market the product
and comparatively, if we go to the accessories showrooms the product is the same but the prices are high only because of the packaging. I realized that the shops under study faced a lot of problems. The main issuses were arrangement, segregation, and space.
